- What are these cookies, exactly?
- Filled butter cookies inspired by traditional maamoul — a heritage cookie from the Eastern Mediterranean. Each one is made with real butter and semolina, filled with date paste, ground pistachio, spiced walnut, or chocolate-pistachio, pressed into carved wooden molds, and dusted with powdered sugar. If you like shortbread or fine butter cookies, you'll love these.
- What is maamoul?
- Maamoul is the traditional name for the filled butter cookie that inspired our entire product line. It's been made across the Eastern Mediterranean for centuries — pressed into carved wooden molds and served during holidays and celebrations. We use plain-English names first on our site so every customer immediately understands what they're ordering, with the traditional name as a secondary descriptor.
- Why do you use plain-English names instead of leading with 'maamoul'?
- Because we want every customer to understand exactly what they're buying in under three seconds. 'Date-Filled Lebanese Butter Cookies' tells you what it is immediately. 'Traditional Maamoul' appears as a subtitle for anyone who knows and loves the traditional name — or wants to learn it.
- Are these very sweet?
- No. Our filled butter cookies are less sweet than most American cookies. The sweetness comes from the fillings — dates provide natural sweetness, pistachios add a savory richness, and walnuts with cinnamon bring a gentle warmth. People who don't usually have a sweet tooth tend to love these.
- What makes Saffron Datery different?
- We're a focused cookie company, not a general bakery. We make one cookie format — the filled butter cookie — and we make it extremely well. Everything is baked to order in the United States using real butter, whole nuts, and natural flavorings. Nothing is mass-produced. Nothing sits on a shelf.
- What about the Dubai Chocolate variety?
- It's a limited edition: our traditional maamoul dough filled with a dark chocolate-pistachio blend inspired by Dubai's viral chocolate trend. Same hand-pressed technique, completely different filling. Available while supplies last.
- What are the ingredients?
- Real butter, flour, semolina, Medjool dates, whole pistachios, walnuts, rose water, orange blossom water, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and (for the Dubai variety) dark chocolate and cream. We don't use preservatives, artificial flavors, or shortening. Our cookies contain wheat, dairy, and tree nuts. All products are egg-free.
Ordering & shipping
- When do orders ship?
- Every order is baked fresh after you place it. We ship within 2 business days of your order. Standard delivery takes 3–5 business days from the ship date.
- How much does shipping cost?
- Shipping is $8.95 flat rate. Orders over $65 ship free. We ship to all 50 US states.
- How are the cookies packaged?
- Every order is packed in food-safe containers inside our branded gift box. The packaging is designed to protect the cookies during transit and to look beautiful when opened — no additional wrapping needed if you're sending a gift. We include a card with tasting notes and origin information.
- How long do they stay fresh?
- Our filled butter cookies keep for 2 weeks at room temperature and up to 4 weeks refrigerated. The Dubai chocolate variety is best within 10 days at room temperature or 3 weeks refrigerated. Every box includes freshness guidance. Most customers tell us they don't last more than a few days.

- Are these suitable as gifts?
- That's what we're designed for. Every order arrives in gift-ready packaging — a branded box that looks as good as what's inside. Our Signature Cookie Gift Box (24 pieces, three flavors) is our most popular product and makes a beautiful holiday, hostess, birthday, or thank-you gift. No wrapping needed.
- Can I send a gift directly to someone?
- Yes. At checkout, enter the recipient's shipping address. We don't include pricing information in the box, so it arrives as a clean gift.
- Do you offer corporate gifting?
- Yes. We handle bulk orders, ship to multiple addresses, and can include custom notes. No minimum order required. Contact us with your needs and we'll put together a plan and timeline.
Returns & support
- What if my order arrives damaged?
- Contact us within 48 hours of delivery and we'll make it right — either a replacement or a full refund. We take packaging seriously, but transit can be unpredictable.
- Can I return or cancel an order?
- Because our cookies are perishable and baked to order, we can't accept returns. If you need to cancel, contact us as soon as possible — we can cancel orders that haven't entered production yet.
